Education
So
you’re not a kinesiology major. (…Wondering what kinesiology
is?) Whether you’re an advanced athlete, weekend warrior or wondering
how best to prevent bodily injury at work, a Physical Therapist has
the expertise you seek. Not only trained to prevent injury and treat
existing impairment, Physical Therapists are skilled instructors, taught
to educate patients on maximizing mobility and reducing the risk of
injury in any setting. If you’ve already sustained an injury,
a large part of your treatment will likely include education –
exercises for regaining health, guidelines for improving strength, and
coaching to prevent future episodes.
Prevention
Ever
wished you could take back something you did? Wish you could do something
over? Prevention is key. If you have moved wrong or bent the wrong way
then you’ve likely experienced that shooting pain that makes you
wish you could relive the last five seconds. The truth is many injuries
can be prevented through muscle strengthening and education. Physical
Therapists excel at developing exercise plans to help improve movement
and stability making injury less likely.
Recuperation
We
are all familiar with Physical Therapy as treatment for injury. Many
of us however falsely believe that the injury must be completely debilitating
before we are eligible for PT care. Physical Therapy is appropriate
for a full range of impairments, including those responsible for every
day aches and pains. There is no reason to live with physical discomfort
or limited mobility when Physical Therapy can help heal the source of
pain and get you moving again.
Preparation
Got
a charity road race or bike ride on the calendar? Guys’ golf weekend
or marathon canoe trip planned? Skiing for the first time in years?
Assuming these aren’t daily activities, you can expect a certain
amount of aches and pains following your outing. You can also expect
a certain amount of injury if you’re not prepared for the specific
activity in which you are about to engage full throttle. Physical Therapy
can help prime forgotten muscles and ready your body for new or long
forgotten physical activities. Following the event, Physical Therapy
can help relieve soreness so you can remain active without extended
downtime.
Competition
In
addition to providing exercise instruction and the treatment of injury,
Physical Therapists can help advance your competitive performance on
your playing field of choice. Kinesiology is in fact the study of human
movement and is the scientific basis for Physical Therapy. As experts
in mobility and injury prevention, your PIR Physical Therapist can help
give you the edge to get ahead.
